Template, seams, edges, and layout influence labour
Simple runs differ from corners, islands, multiple seams, returns, unusual profiles, and cut-outs. A fabricator’s measurement or template visit may confirm actual dimensions, slab layout, seams, edge details, support, access, and whether appliances or sinks require coordinated trades. The calculator’s complex-layout adjustment is planning context, not a fabrication drawing.
Keep cabinet and service work visible
Existing cabinets must be suitable for the proposed surface, but cabinet replacement or structural alteration is not automatically included. Reinforcement is an optional calculator allowance. Plumbing disconnection/reconnection is separate, and gas or electrical appliance changes must be performed and scoped by the appropriate qualified trade.

Does countertop replacement include new cabinets or a complete kitchen?+
No. The calculator is for countertop or worktop replacement. Cabinet replacement and full kitchen renovation are separate projects, although cabinet reinforcement can be selected where its scope is defined.
Why are sink and cooktop cut-outs fixed allowances?+
They are normally counted by opening rather than countertop area. Confirm whether template, fabrication, cut-out, sink fitting, hob or cooktop work, and appliance reconnection are included in the written quote.
Is quartz the same as quartzite?+
No. The calculator’s quartz category refers to engineered stone. Natural quartzite is a different stone product and should be quoted from its actual specification rather than assumed to match engineered quartz.
Can I cut stone countertops myself?+
This guide provides no cutting or fabrication instructions. Stone processing can create respirable crystalline silica exposure; use qualified fabricators following applicable occupational-safety controls.
